On June 3, 1996, God sent down his angels to escort Jessica Erin Loverich to her homecoming. In her brief 15 years on earth, Jessie possessed the unique gift of deeply
touching and profoundly affecting all who were fortunate enough to know her. Jessie's
love for her family, friends and her church left us all so richly blessed and eternally grateful for having been loved by her. She represented all that was good in life, smiles to brighten our days, hugs to warm the coldest nights, prayers to guide our
decisions and love to fill our hearts. The automobile accident that claimed her life here on earth left behind a family, friends and community devastated with grief and searching for an answer to the question "why?" We were all literally
drowning in a sea of pain and despair praying for a means to cope.
God answered that prayer and sent Frank Thayer to throw a life line to all who were drowning. Frank introduced the idea of an annual golf tournament and in April of 1997 the Jessica Loverich Memorial Golf Tournament or "Jessie's Tourney" was born.
While the tournament is a celebration of Jessie's life it also has a serious philanthropic mission to
provide finanical assistance to those in need. In the tournament's brief history,
donations have made it possible for children to go to a YMCA camp where
Judeo-Christian values are honored and practiced. The YMCA scholarship is set up as a trust and continues to provide three camp scholarships each year for children in need. It gives children the chance to play, be away from pressures and
problems of their everyday lives and learn leadership skills. Additionally, scholarships
were awarded to Taylor High School graduating seniors to attend college
and more recently financial aid has been provided to the Star of Hope Mission who
is addressing the needs of Houston's homeless population.
We know Jessie would be happy and proud of the work the tournament is achieving in her memory.
Thank you and God Bless you.
